Being in Bali is almost like being among unseen spirits. Yet at every corner and turn, there would be something to remind you that these spirits are among us. Take the canang saris which are offered few times a day. For us, it was taboo to step on any offering of all kind, for fear of angering the spirits (Imagine someone stepping on your food without a care), so it was plenty of ‘ooh!’ and ‘ahhs!’ in between while watching out for these dainty offerings, so that we don’t trample on them. But ironically, most people didn’t seem to pay attention to it.

The temple at Lake Bratan was one of my favourite. While taking the long ride to it, including the winding and dusty road, where endless dust seems to get into your eyes, I was doubtful whether was the trip worth it, and yes, it definitely was. For some reason, despite the large number of tourists there, everyone was slient in awe of this temple, and it’s backdrop makes it even dreamier.

Felt like we just reached a house meant for the gods.
